A Headboard Makeover With Big Impact (and Even Bigger Pride)

Not every DIY project has to be complicated to feel meaningful. One of our members recently took on a simple but satisfying upgrade: giving their fabric headboard a fresh new look. Whether or not it counts as “true reupholstery,” the result was beautiful—and the process was empowering.

The entire project came together with just one borrowed tool:

  • Electric staple gun (plus a handful of staples from the Tool Library’s stash)

Instead of buying a brand-new bedframe for $100–$200, they chose the more sustainable (and far less wasteful) route: covering the existing headboard with new fabric and stapling it neatly into place. Sure, they could’ve bought a manual staple gun, but as they put it, this project was less about saving money and more about the pride of doing it themselves.

And along the way, they had a moment many DIYers know well:
“I had never used a staple gun before, and it felt so powerful!”

Their reflections capture exactly why the Tool Library exists:
“I love you guys. This is an incredible resource that makes home projects accessible to folks who don’t have the funds or desire to acquire a zillion separate tools for one-off projects. I feel more connected to the community by knowing I’m participating in something shared by so many others.”

A little fabric, a borrowed tool, and a burst of confidence—sometimes that’s all it takes to turn something old into something you love again.

Have your own small-but-mighty project story? We’d love to share it!
