Some projects start small – and some start at 4 feet by 12 feet! One of our members, Zakey, recently completed an impressive build: a brand-new shed constructed entirely from scratch. And thanks to the Cville Tool Library, almost every tool needed was just a borrow away.
The backbone of this project? Saws. Lots of saws.
From framing to roofing to siding, this shed required precision cuts at every stage. Zakey checked out an impressive lineup, including:
- Mitre saw
- Jig saw
- Circular saw
- Japanese pull saw
- Impact driver
- Tamper
- Shovel
With this toolset, he tackled every part of the build: framing the walls, door, and roof with 2x4s; cutting rafters and trim; working with OSB and T-1-11 plywood siding; and even learning to install an asphalt shingle roof.
And the payoff? Borrowing these tools saved several hundred dollars, not to mention the cost (and storage headache!) of buying tools that might be used only a few times.
Even better, Zakey’s carpentry skills skyrocketed. As he put it:
“My carpentry skills definitely leveled up.”
This project reflects exactly what the Tool Library is all about: making big, ambitious DIY dreams possible without big, ambitious price tags. And it’s a reminder that sharing tools isn’t just economical; it builds skills, confidence, and community, too.
We love seeing what our members create. Got a project you’re proud of? Share it with us—we’d love to feature you next!
