Fences do more than mark a boundary. They define a space, add privacy, and pull a yard together. One of our most active members, Matt, recently installed a sleek black aluminum fence in their backyard, and thanks to the Cville Tool Library, he was able to take on the entire project without purchasing a single specialty tool.
Building on the success of an earlier project, Matt kept the outdoor improvements going by checking out several essentials:
- Post hole digger
- Mattock
- Hacksaw
- Post level
With these in hand, he dug post holes, set the spacing, cut pieces to fit, and ensured everything stood perfectly straight. He even picked up a new skill along the way:
“Yes, I learned how to properly install fence posts using cement!”
Borrowing the tools saved around $200, and Matt saved hundreds more by doing the installation himself instead of hiring it out. But as Matt shared, the benefits went far beyond cost:
“The tool library is a great resource to the community—not only to save money on tools you might only need once or twice, but also for spreading practical knowledge of home maintenance and other projects.”
We’ll take that as motivation to keep doing exactly what we’re doing.
Have a project you’ve completed with borrowed tools? We’d love to feature your story next!
